Irma Garcia was a teacher at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, TX who lost her life while protecting her students on Tuesday when a gunman entered her school and killed 19.

Her nephew, Joe Martinez, shared more devastating news on his Twitter today, Thurs, May 26.

"EXTREMELY heartbreaking and come with deep sorrow to say that my Tia Irma’s husband Joe Garcia has passed away due to grief, i truly am at a loss for words for how we are all feeling, PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR FAMILY, God have mercy on us, this isn’t easy."

The family's GoFundMe page states that Joe passed from a medical emergency just two days after Irma lost her life.

"I truly believe Joe died of a broken heart and losing the love of his life of more than 30 years was too much to bear."

Martinez shared that Joe & Irma were high school sweethearts. They leave behind four children ages 23, 19, 15 and 13 years old.
